ZAGREB, July 25 (Hina) - The Croatian Homeland War Veterans
Ministry and the republic co-ordination of Homeland War
associations on Thursday condemned road blocks on the highway near
the central Croatian town Gracac announced for Friday by the
Association of Croatian Homeland War Veternas treated for post
traumatic stress disorder. #L#
Seven branches of the Association threatened to block the highway
because their demands were not met, namely to exempt them from
paying medical surcharges and equalise their rights to those of
wounded veterans.
The reasons for the protests are unconvincing and road blocks on the
most significant highway in the country will threaten the existence
of numerous Croatian war veterans who live from tourism, a
statement issued by the Ministry said.
The Ministry dismissed claims that veterans suffering from post
traumatic stress disorder were discriminated against in the Law on
Croatian Homeland War Veterans in relation to other veterans. The
Ministry says that amendments to this law were in fact in their
favour.
