ZAGREB, July 24 (Hina)- The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry did not lift the ban on the import of cattle and cattle products from 23 countries as a measure to prevent transmissive spongiform encephalopathius into the country and
so the ban is still in force.

The ban related to 23 countries that have recorded cases of "mad cow
disease" amongst which are Austria, a statement issued by the
Ministry on Wednesday said.
At a meeting on Monday at the Ministry, representatives of the
Slavonia-Barnaj Union demanded that the ban be lifted with regard
to Austria where only one case of mad cow disease has been
recorded.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry believes that Croatian
agricultural producers should be oriented to domestic animal
breeding particularly since last year 14,996 calf were placed on
the market for breeding purposes.
