Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic said that in the next several
days a session of the presidency of the ruling DOS coalition would
be held at which it would be decided how many candidates will DOS
have.
So far, Federal Vice Premier Miroljub Labus has announced his
candidacy. Other candidates include the Mayor of Cacak and
president of the New Serbia - a coalition partner within the
DOS - Velimir Ilic; attorney and president of a non parliamentary
party, Pravda (Justice Party), Borivoj Borovic. Other possible
candidates could include the Serbian Vice Premier in charge of
Kosovo and president of the Democratic Alternative, Nebojsa Covic,
and Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica, even though Kostunica
never clearly stated that he would run for Serbia's President.
The mandate of the current president of Serbia and Hague-based war
crimes tribunal suspect Milan Milutinovic expires December 29.
