BELGRADE, June 25 (Hina) - The Serbian government on Tuesday
requested Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica to say if it was
true that last year he ordered the replaced Yugoslav Army (VJ) chief
of staff, Gen. Nebojsa Pavkovic, to raid the Serbian government's
communications office with a special VJ unit. #L#
After Kostunica issued a decision on Pavkovic's replacement, the
general on Monday called a press conference at which he said he had
witnesses who could corroborate that Kostunica had undertaken
illegal actions towards the Serbian government.
At today's session this government considered a letter Pavkovic
sent it, as well as the Yugoslav parliament, on June 21. In the
letter Pavkovic made grave accusations "about abuse in the
management of the Yugoslav Army, as well as about illegal actions"
towards the Serbian government, the government said in today's
statement.
The government requested that Kostunica "clearly and
unambiguously" answer "if it is true that on 7 June 2001 General
Pavkovic was called to President Kostunica's Office, where he was
given an order to raid the Serbian Government's Office with a
special unit."
The government said the matter constituted a direct undermining of
the legality of the government and constitutional order of Serbia.
The government is requesting a "full Yugoslav Parliament probe into
this event, as well as in the other claims in General Pavkovic's
letter."
