PODGORICA, July 18 (Hina) - Montenegro's President Milo Djukanovic
has said the coalition of Liberals and "Yugoslavs" has shown its
real face recently and it will not be difficult for Montenegrins to
decide how to vote at the coming elections. #L#
"Unnatural alliance in the coalition between "Together for
Yugoslavia" and the Liberal Alliance, as soon as it came to power,
showed its real face, and several days prior to the proclamation of
the date of the elections (for the city of Podgorica, presidential
polls and early parliamentary polls), they radically change the
electoral and media legislation, deny people the right to stand the
elections and tell the media what they can and what they cannot do,"
Djukanovic said on Wednesday night.
After local elections two months ago the Liberal Alliance severed
its ties with its previous partners (including Djukanovic's
Democratic Party of Socialists) when they did not meet its request
to allow Liberals to come to power in five municipalities. Liberals
struck up coalition with pro-Yugoslav parties in the Montenegrin
parliament thus forming a new parliamentary majority.
"I believe that it is very good that now, ahead of the next
elections, they (Liberals) show their real face, i.e. their lack of
the elementary democratic capacity and thus they suggested to
citizens of Montenegro for what they should not opt in their
future," Djukanovic told reporters.
The Montenegrin government on Wednesday adopted three bills on the
media, drafted by working groups, and forwarded them into the
parliament in an urgent procedure.
The move of the government is its response to draft amendments to
the law on information, which was drawn up by the Liberal Alliance
LS) and which provoked strong reaction in the public.
Citizens and international associations assess that the proposal
of the LS party restrict the media freedom.
A public relations official, Bozidar Jaredic said the working
group, in cooperation with relevant international institutions,
had worked on the three bills for one year and recently sent them in
the parliamentary procedure.
According to him, the European Union has no serious objections to
the draft acts which contain high European standards in this
field.
