At the end of June, 385,025 people were registered on the dole in
Croatia which is 9,069 lower than in May but 5.5 per cent more than
for the same period last year, the HZZ head, Sanja Crnkovic-Pozaic
said at a news conference.
The unemployment rate fell from 22.7 per cent in May to 22.2 per cent
in June, Pozaic said.
Unemployment dropped in all counties except Karlovac. The largest
fall was recorded in Istria (10.6 per cent). This is followed by
Primorje-Gorski Kotar County (5.5 per cent) and Dubrovnik-Neretva
County (5.1 per cent).
Pozaic stressed that the fall can be accounted to seasonal
employment in tourism where 5,905 people found jobs in June.
According to the HZZ, in June 17,534 people found jobs while at the
same time 17,556 came to the Employment Bureau to be registered as
jobless. Of those registered, 4,420 were seeking employment for the
first time while 13,136 had previously been employed.
Due to the abolishment of the obligation for employers to register
their employment needs with the HZZ, in June the number of
registrations fell by 27.5 per cent compared to May.
The government's employment programme has to date created jobs for
5,834 people of the 14,029 planned to be employed this year.
The government intends to employ over 36,000 people in the next five
years for which 0.16 billion euros has been earmarked from the state
budget.
