the Slovenian press reported on Monday. #L#
Commenting on the Dalai Lama's three-day visit to Slovenia last
week, the press said it was only a pity that the Roman Catholic
dignitary, Archbishop of Ljubljana, Franc Rode, had not received
the Dalai Lama and thus he could have shown the readiness of the
Roman Catholic Church to hold dialogue with other religious
communities.
"Although the messages the Dalai Lama gave about the respect for
opponents, sympathy with the other people and the rejection of
material goods could be heard in sermons of local parish priests,
the Roman Catholic Church will not probably agree with his
statement that ethics and religion are two different things and
that the world can survive without religion but cannot without
values," the Ljubljana-based "Dnevnik" daily said.
The daily assesses that Slovenian top officials showed courage by
meeting unofficially the Dalai-Lama despite the protest of China.
The visit of the Tibetan leader shadowed the visit of the Spanish
King and Queen who arrived in Ljubljana as guests of Slovenia's
President Milan Kucan. The news programmes commenced with reports
on the Dalai-Lama's visit and not with the Spanish support to
Slovenia's bids to enter the European Union and NATO.
