ZAGREB, July 5 (Hina) - Croatia's parliament on Friday morning
discussed a strategy for the development of agriculture and
fishing. #L#
Deputy Agriculture Minister Tomislav Ledic addressed MPs
explaining the strategy.
He informed them that in the 1991-2001 period the agricultural
population fell from 9.1 to 5.5 percent in the entire population.
The share of the agricultural population in the active population
dropped from 12.6 to worrisome seven percent, Ledic said.
The government believes that goals of the agricultural policy are
the provision of enough food supplies, the strengthened
competitiveness of the agricultural production both on the
domestic and foreign markets, the appropriate standard of farmers,
the protection of consumers of agricultural produce and the
preservation of natural resources and rural areas.
The parliamentary benches continued discussing the document.
