The two sides also signed agreements on compensation for a part of
costs for the export of surplus wheat.
Three companies - Agrokor, Podravka, and Zea from Virovitica -
obliged themselves to buy all offered quantities of the 2002 yields
in specified regions.
Agriculture and Forestry Minister Bozidar Pankretic said that in
order to avoid debates about the purchase of wheat next year as
well, the Ministry would increase, through the Law on Incentives in
Agriculture, Fishery, and Forestry, the minimal production area
for which incentives are granted to three hectares.
The Ministry will also request that all wheat producers have
contracts with buyers as early as this autumn. Pankretic dismissed
media speculation that the Social Democrats and the Croatian
Peasant Party (HSS) have made a political deal with regard to wheat
and the nuclear power plant Krsko.
Some farmers associations did not sign the agreement, continuing to
demand a price of 1.10 kuna for one kilogram of wheat.
