The strategic commitment of the US to participate in peace
operations in the region continues to be very strong, Clifford Bond
told reporters in Sarajevo upon returning from Washington DC.
He confirmed that US troops stayed in Bosnia.
The US General John Sylvester will continue to ensure peace and
stability in Bosnia as head of NATO's Stabilisation Force, Bond
said.
The ambassador stressed the decision on the engagement of US troops
in Bosnia should not be brought in connection with debates of
liability before the International Criminal Court. The US
government earlier resolutely dismissed the possibility of US
citizens engaged in peace troops under the UN mandate being
prosecuted before the newly-established war crimes tribunal.
