In his introductory speech, Zidic said Matrix Croatica was strong
enough to connect the past and the future. He recalled the 20-year
ban on the society's work between 1971 and 1991.
Reiterating the words of his predecessor Josip Bratulic, who said
that Croatian literature could not have been written without Matrix
Croatica, Zidic added that the history of the Croatian struggle for
freedom and the history of the Croatian suffering could not be
written without the society either.
Speaking about the state of Croatian society, Zidic said Matrix
Croatica must oppose the mental and actual sale of the Homeland.
"Croatia must not remain a fragmented plot for sale," said Zidic,
adding that Croatia should not develop colonial relations with the
world.
"It is up to the Matrix Croatica members to engage to the maximum in
having the dignity of Croatian war veterans respected, those who
defended Croatia with arms and those who defended it with pen and
words," said Zidic.
He added he objected to Croats being quieter in their homeland than
in the former Yugoslav federation.
