BELGRADE, June 26 (Hina) - Senior Yugoslav Army officers on Tuesday
expressed full willingness to efficiently execute all tasks and
consistently and resolutely implement all decisions made by the
Supreme Defence Council and the Yugoslav President, the
President's Military Cabinet said in a statement. #L#
The statement was released following President Vojislav
Kostunica's meeting with Yugoslav Army General Staff officers,
including the acting chief of staff, General Branko Krga, who was
appointed to the office on Monday evening, following the
replacement and retirement of Nebojsa Pavkovic.
The statement does not mention a decision the General Staff
allegedly made last night to the effect that it will not support the
replacement of Pavkovic, as the Belgrade daily "Glas Javnosti"
claimed on Tuesday.
Pavkovic said yesterday he would not accept President's
Kostunica's decree that he be replaced. He said the decree
constituted a "personal squaring of accounts" between Kostunica
and himself and that he would seek protection from the Yugoslav
parliament.
