"This visit is finally closing some chapters in our relations and
stepping up the development of all-round cooperation," Drnovsek
said.
The two officials signed agreements on the mutual stimulation and
protection of investments and cooperation in the fields of tourism,
posts, and telecommunications. An agreement on the protection of
plants should be signed later today.
Yugoslavia's Pesic said the considerable imbalance existent in
current trade had to be corrected in order for economic cooperation
to improve. He announced a possible growth in Slovenia's
investments and participation in the privatisation process in
Yugoslavia.
The two ministers said a free trade agreement would be signed soon.
Drnovsek hoped Yugoslavia would settle contentious issues as soon
as possible, including the rearrangement of Serbia-Montenegro
relations and the Kosovo issue. Slovenia supports the territorial
integrity of Yugoslavia and appeals for peaceful and democratic
problem-solving, he said.
"I wish for Yugoslavia to catch up with Slovenia on the road to
European integration as soon as possible," said Drnovsek.
The Slovene PM is on a two-day visit to Yugoslavia. He is to meet
federal President Vojislav Kostunica and Serbian PM Zoran Djindjic
later today.
