"Uljanik" is one of Croatia's most successful shipyards which ended
last business year with a positive financial result of 1.946
million kuna (EUR262,575).
Racan said he visited "Uljanik" because the government was
currently discussing the situation in Croatia's shipbuilding
industry and its prospects.
The prime minister also met Istria County officials to discuss the
economic situation in the county.
He told reporters after the talks that the government stood firmly
behind a decision to continue with the building of the "Istrian Y"
road, and added that the competent ministry was about to sign an
agreement with a French partner. According to Racan, the agreement
will be more favourable than the previous one.
Speaking about the future of military facilities in Istria County,
Racan said the government's plan was to use them for economic and
tourist purposes, excluding military real estate necessary for
Croatia's security. He said the government would stimulate the
establishment of free zones.
Istria County prefect Ivan Jakovcic expressed satisfaction with
the talks with Racan and said the county would next month forward
concrete proposals to the government on Istria's plans with
military facilities along the coast line.
