ZAGREB, June 18 (Hina) - The family of the late Croatian President
Franjo Tudjman on Tuesday sent a letter to Croatian Democratic
Union (HDZ) president Ivo Sanader, saying they could not give their
consent for naming a party foundation after the late head of state.

Dr. Tudjman dedicated his entire life to the establishment of an
independent and sovereign Croatian state, and is among those
deserving the most credit for a Croatia built on the idea of
reconciliation of all Croatian political options and unity between
Croats living in Croatia and those living abroad, reads the
letter.
"In the current political situation and in conditions of a general
'de-tudjmanisation' hysteria, the (replaced) members of the
Foundation were and are among those most staunchly defending Dr
Tudjman's work," the letter reads.
This fact does not mean that the HDZ National Committee does not
have the right to make decisions it wants to make, the family said,
adding it would not interfere with the party's political
orientation.
However, the lack of unity and discord demonstrated by HDZ members
results in internal rifts, concern and confusion in the Diaspora,
as well as the loss of belief of a large number of Croatian citizens
in a consensus on the resolution of the current crisis of national
identity and the economic crisis.
All this is opposed to the work of Dr. Tudjman and cannot be linked
to his name, the family said, adding this was the reason they could
not approve naming the foundation after Tudjman.
"His work is Croatia, as an independent and sovereign, democratic
and integral country. That is why he belongs to everybody and not
only to one party or political option," reads the letter signed by
Tujdman's wife, daughter and one son.
The letter was forwarded to the acting chairman of the foundation,
Nevio Setic, and the Ministry of Justice.
At a session on June 15, the HDZ National Committee replaced the
management of the party foundation, including Ivan Aralica, Ante
Beljo, and Ivic Pasalic, and named it after the late president.
