ZAGREB, June 18 (Hina) - Croatian Radio Television (HRT) will
invest 540 million kuna into development and modernisation by 2006,
in order to improve its efficiency, HRT director Mirko Galic told
reporters in Zagreb on Tuesday. #L#
This year's investments total around 100 million kuna, Galic said
at the first press conference of the HRT management and
directorate.
HRT management board president Miljenko Jelaca said that the HRT
would not be able to separate the Radio and Television sectors by
the set deadline (July 1), but added the task would be completed as
soon as possible. The reason for the delay, he said, was the fact
that the necessary documentation had not been drawn up yet.
HRT director Galic announced the construction of three big studios
by mid-September. Technical equipment in Radio's news desk will be
digitised by the end of summer, while Television's equipment will
be digitised by the end of next year, he added.
HRT should introduce a new business system by the end of the year,
Galic said.
"It is high time for changes and the transformation of the HRT into a
public service as all conditions have been created for the
broadcasting of programmes free of any political pressures,"
Granic said, adding that the incumbent authorities were not
interfering in HRT programmes in any way.
He said that the improved situation on HRT was the result of a very
low level of indebtedness, high viewer ratings, and "full harmony"
in the cooperation between the management and the directorate.
Commenting on frequent criticisms about a low level of
professionalism on HRT, Galic said the HRT had quality personnel at
many levels, but those people were often victims of "a negative
picture of chaos and disorder" generated by the media.
