With the assistance of the International Centre for the Rights of
the Romany headquartered in Budapest and the Croatian Helsinki
Committee, the Romany students filed a suit because of the, as they
said, unlawful activities involved with organising lessons for
Romany students in a manner so that they are divided into separate
classes and in which they work according to a shortened programme.
Authorised prosecutor Lovorka Kusan said that the plaitiff does not
wish to attend the hearing.
Mirjana Zvonarek, the deputy county state prosecutor in Cakovec
acting on behalf of the defendants, submitted a written response to
the suit consisting of about seventy pages and entitled "Plan and
Work Programme for Lower Grades in the Kursanec Primary School"
which apparently indicates that there is no discrimination and
segregation in that school.
The authorised attorney asked for a recess of 15 days so she could
study the documents relating to the suit.
