During a round-table conference "Regional Development in Croatia -
Challenges and Opportunities" with representatives of key
institutions in the field of regional development participating,
Cacic said "unfortunately, we still have not done the essential, we
have not defined a person and institution which would be
responsible for coordinating activities in the area of regional
development which are being implemented by various institutions --
ministries, funds, the Croatian Bank for Reconstruction and
Development, and others," Cacic said.
This person and institution should take on, direct, coordinate and
follow all initiatives concerning regional development, and should
function as part of the government. However, he said that it would
not be a good option for the government to control the body.
One ministry should be appointed to control it, and whether it will
be a new ministry or an existing one is the government's decision,
he said.
