ZAGREB, June 10 (Hina) - There are indications that the transcripts
of phone conversations of Zagreb businessman Hrvoje Petrac were
sold and the Zagreb County Prosecution has been investigating the
case in cooperation with the Zagreb police directorate, Zagreb
County Prosecutor Krunoslav Canjuga said on Monday. #L#
"We are working on several fields and we have indications that the
transcripts were sold," Canjuga said at a news conference without
explaining who sold the transcripts and to whom. He reminded that
the County Prosecution had initiated criminal proceedings against
an unidentified person for disclosing an official secret, namely,
the transcripts of Petrac's phone conversations.
The "Petrac affair" hit the news-stands after Belgrade's tabloid
"Nedeljni telegraf" ran a series of transcripts of Petrac's phone
conversations. Petrac is a Zagreb businessman whom part of the
media have accused of being one of Croatia's mob bosses.
Canjuga said the County Prosecution was still investigating the
murder of suspected mobster Veselin Marinov, while the motive for
the murder, which happened some ten days ago, was investigated by
the Zagreb police directorate and the Office for the Prevention of
Corruption and Organised Crime (USKOK).
The investigation will be taken over by the USKOK once all facts
regarding the motive for the murder are established, he said.
The County Prosecution also has been working on a complex file
regarding the so-called White and Blue Books of the oil company INA,
which is based on an investigation by the Croatian police and
Interpol into alleged irregularities in the company's business.
In February last year the County Prosecution received a report by
the Interior Ministry's Economic Crime Section which requested
that INA hand over its business documents, however, Canjuga said,
the documents had not been handed to the police yet.
Canjuga also said his office had reported attorney Anto Nobilo to
the Bar Association, accusing him of violating the attorneys'
ethical code by making a number of claims on Croatian Television
defaming the Zagreb Prosecutor's Office.
Among other things, Nobilo said that Marinov had called him a couple
of days before he was killed, saying that the information on his
possible testimony for the defence in the trial of so-called Zagreb
mobsters had leaked from the State Prosecution to a rival mob clan,
headed by Vjekoslav Slisko.
"Nobilo has failed to submit to the County Prosecution a single
piece of evidence which would prove his claims," said Canjuga.
The County Prosecution has also filed a request for disciplinary
proceedings against attorney Cedo Prodanovic for his claims
regarding the prosecutor in the trial of Zagreb mobsters, Dunja
Pavlicek Patak.
He said Prodanovic had asked Pavlicek Patak at one of the hearings
if she did not believe that "the indictment drawn up this poorly is
an insult for the court".
Canjuga also said there were no conflicts whatsoever between the
police and the State Prosecution.
