ZAGREB, June 7 (Hina) - The Association of Croatian State
Prosecutors on Friday rejected claims by the "Nacional" weekly in a
text about the murder of Veselin Marinov in which, they say, the
article improperly and impermissibly accused deputy county
prosecutors representing the prosecution in the trial of the so-
called criminal organisation. #L#
The association believes that the Nacional text entitled "Dramatic
Audio Recordings of Marinov's Testimony", tendentiously
discredited people, particularly deputy Zagreb county prosecutor,
Dunja Pavlicek Patak.
In their statement on Friday, the state prosecutors warned that
readers were led to believe that Pavlicek Patak was also guilty of
Marinov's death and in that way, they say, deliberately and
dangerously discredited not only her, but the entire state
prosecution.
The text in Nacional theorises and presents the accused as victims,
while the state prosecution is portrayed as a part of organised
crime, the statement says.
In its last issue dating June 4, the Nacional weekly amongst other
things notes that Pavlicek Patak promised Marinov that she would
see to it that all charges against him were dropped if he was to
refrain from testifying in favour of members of the so-called
criminal organisation who are being tried at the Remetinec jail in
an improvised courtroom. The article further notes that Marinov's
murderer, Vinko Zuljevic Klica, was a member of a mafia clan who
killed Vjeko Slisko to whom Nacional refers as an "ally of state
prosecution institutions".
