Poljana" case began at the Zagreb County Court after four previous
adjournments. #L#
As one of the indictees, Miroslav Bajramovic, failed to appear at
the trial and provide an explanation for his absence, judge Rajka
Tomerlin Almer accepted the prosecution's request that he be tried
in absence. The court also ruled that he be placed in custody and
issued a warrant for his arrest.
The other four indictees - Munib Suljic, Igor Mikola, Sinisa Rimac
and Branko Saric - appeared in court accompanied by their
attorneys.
The trial of the "Pakrac group" is being repeated because the
Supreme Court last year annulled part of the 1999 verdict under
which they were acquitted of two counts from the indictment.
The five are tried for the murder of Aleksandar Antic in the area of
Pakrac in late 1991, and extortion of money from and the illegal
arrest of Milos Ivosevic, Rade Pejic and Marko Grujic, who were
taken from Zagreb to Pakracka Poljana in October 1991 and later
found killed.
The indictees pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution has proposed six witnesses, who are to testify
during the trial, which resumes on June 21.
