Racan, who was accompanied by several ministers, reiterated the
Zagreb-Split motorway would be completed by June 2005. The drive
from Zagreb to Split will take three hours, he said, adding that he
assumed the responsibility for the realisation of this goal.
When the Zagreb-Split motorway has been completed, works will begin
on the motorway leading further south, to Ploce and Dubrovnik, said
Racan.
During Racan's inauguration speech, a group of three-four people
whistled and shouted: "This road has already been opened and
doesn't have to be opened again." Some of those in attendance
carried photographs of war crimes indictees Ante Gotovina and Mirko
Norac, but the PM did not react.
The Dugopolje-Prgomet section should be completed in 2004. The
388.2 km long Zagreb-Split motorway is worth close to five billion
kuna (EUR675.7 million).
