Upon returning to Sarajevo following a visit to the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) and Qatar, Lagumdzija told journalists the talks he
held were overshadowed by the affair of the alleged sale of weapons
by the Bosnia Federation's Army to Israel.
The affair was launched with an article in the Sarajevo "Ljiljan"
weekly, known for its close ties to SDA officials. The weekly
claimed the federal government secretly sold weapons originally
donated by the UAE and that the weapons are now being used by the
Israelis to kill Palestinians.
The accusations were soon supported by SDA president Sulejman
Tihic, who announced a parliamentary investigation into the entire
affair.
Lagumdzija said that misinformation like this was in fact careless
political manipulation.
The Bosnian foreign minister said there was nothing illegal or
confidential with the sale of weapons as the Israelis are only
mediators and the end user was Cameroon.
He conceded a flaw could be attributed to the federal government for
not informing the public on time about the arrangement.
Lagumdzija emphasised the government in the Emirates was well aware
the entire matter was being used in the pre-election run up.
