The Prime Minister was Monday's guest speaker on Croatian Radio's
show "How the Government Rules".
Speaking about the Croatian-Slovenian agreement on the Krsko
Nuclear Power Plant, Racan expressed concern that the entire talks
surrounding that agreement and its ratification were surrounded by
"too many rash ideas and simple recipes".
Commenting on opinions within the opposition and amongst some
coalition members, that Croatia should sell its share of the power
plant - and even donate it to Slovenia (as proposed by the Croatian
Peasant Party - HSS)- Racan said that a gift like that could mean a
great loss of several million dollars for Croatia which has a
shortage of energy anyway.
Pointing out that the Krsko power plant is only about 20 kilometres
from Zagreb, he reminded that ownership rights enabled supervision
and security over the plant and should act as an inspiration to
Croatia to take note of the security of its citizens.
Racan said that the current situation was not good and Croatia and
Slovenia needed to find a common solution.
A draft on confirming the Agreement on the Krsko Power Plant has
passed the first reading in the parliament. The Government signed
that Agreement late last year and it foresees that after four years
of not receiving any electricity, Croatia should as of July 1, once
again have access to its power.
