SARAJEVO, May 17 (Hina) - A deadline Bosnian authorities have been
given to sign dual citizenship agreements with interested
countries has been extended until the end of 2004, the head of the
citizenship department at the Bosnian Ministry for Civilian Issues
and Communications, Bakir Dautbasic, said on Friday. #L#
Under Bosnia's current Citizenship Law, all persons who were
granted the citizenship also of another country would remain
without Bosnian citizenship unless the Sarajevo authorities signed
a dual citizenship agreement with that country by Dec. 31, 2002.
The most important reason for the extended deadline within which
this issue must be regulated through bilateral agreements is the
fact that such an agreement could probably not be signed with
Croatia by the end of year, which would result in many Bosnian
Croats losing Bosnian citizenship.
Speaking on behalf of the Bosnian authorities, Dautbasic voiced
dissatisfaction with Croatia's slowness in settling the issue.
