The meeting of senior representatives of UN member countries,
including some 70 heads of state and premiers, was opened by UN
Secretary-General Kofi Annan and the chairman of the General
Assembly, Han Seung-soo.
Mesic said that the countries must fight problems burdening today's
youth individually , but also jointly, within the UN framework.
Expanding and consolidating democracy, developing a social state,
eliminating wars and conflicts, investing into development and
education, are the basics of success of the fight for a better
future for children, but not them only, Mesic said.
On behalf of Croatia, Mesic Pledged to support and actively
participate in every project which could benefit children, and
confirmed that Croatia would carry out a policy of peace, build
democracy and secure development.
