The agreement raises police cooperation between the two countries
to a higher level and, along with the previously signed agreement on
re-admission, further contributes to security in the two
countries, Croatia's Sime Lucin and Yugoslavia's Zoran Zivkovic
said after the signing ceremony.
The agreement envisages daily contacts between police officers and
experts from the two ministries and the exchange of important
information and regulations. A joint commission, to include three
representatives from each country, will monitor the implementation
of the agreement.
The two ministers also advocated the further liberalisation of the
visa regime, which they said was urged by businessmen and tourist
workers.
Zivkovic suggested that the two governments introduce tourist
travel permits for the period between June 1 and September 30.
During that period, the citizens of the two countries would be able
to travel to the other country without visas, and the permits would
allow a 30-day stay. Zivkovic expects that the Croatian side would
support this proposal.
The Croatian minister supported the further liberalisation of the
visa regime, both for tourist and business journeys, adding that
the proposal on tourist permits would be considered.
