The event is attended by maritime experts from Croatia, Austria,
Spain, Switzerland, Great Britain, and Germany.
Minister Kovac announced changes to the Maritime Code, which are to
adjust Croatian legislation to the EU regulations.
Kovac said that Croatia had forwarded to all Adriatic countries a
proposal for the introduction of a compulsory ship contact system,
which is very important in fighting terrorism. Kovac said that
preparations were underway for a joint proposal on special zones to
be introduced in heavily travelled and ecologically most sensitive
parts of the Adriatic Sea. Countries of the Adriatic-Ionian region
have agreed on cooperation in introducing stricter security
control on merchant ships in Croatian ports, Kovac said.
