BELGRADE, April 30 (Hina) - Serbian Interior Minister Dusan

Sljivancanin, indicted by the Hague war crimes tribunal for war
crimes in Vukovar in 1991, to state that he would not surrender to
the tribunal even at the cost of his life. #L#
"Any citizen of this country, particularly if he was an officer and
cares about his honour, is obliged to respect the laws and courts of
this country. It is therefore up to Sljivancanin's superiors and
the structure whose member he used to be to discuss his statement,
and they'd better do it before the tribunal summons him,"
Mihajlovic told reporters in Sremska Kamenica.
Asked whether special police units would be deployed to arrest
Sljivancanin, Mihajlovic said that he did not believe there would
be any need for that, nor that Sljivancanin would resist arrest.
Mihajlovic also does not expect problems with the arrest of other
Hague indictees because the Yugoslav law on cooperation with the
Hague tribunal precisely defines the role of the police. The
minister believes the police will not have to arrest the indictees,
regardless of the fact that only six persons from a list of 23
indictees have announced voluntary surrender.
Mihajlovic added that the police did not know the whereabouts of
some of the people from the list and that they were not in Serbia.
