Under the bill, information relating to racial or ethnic origin,
political affiliation, religion, health status or sexual
preference, and criminal records and sentences will not be
collected and processed except in exceptional, exactly defined,
circumstances.
Such information could be requested following permission by the
person concerned, in cases of state or public security, etc.
The bill envisages the establishment of a council for the
protection of personal data, which would answer to the Sabor and
monitor the implementation of the law.
The government decided to initiate proceedings to foreclose an
agreement on a World Bank loan, to be invested into the pension
system. The project has an estimated value of US$40 million, of
which US$31 million would be ensured by the World Bank, while the
remainder would be obtained from the state budget.
