After refusing to hand over his office to the incoming court
president Lidija Jaksic for several days, Kranjec finally vacated
the premises on Tuesday following a three-hour meeting with the
police who were sent by order of the Justice Minister.
The reason why Kranjec has decided to sue Minister Anticevic-
Marinovic was explained to journalists by the president of the
Association of Croatian Judges, Vladimir Gredelj, whom Kranjec
delegated to do so.
Kranjec is suing and pressing charges due to the forging of
documents because, as Gredelj claims, the Minister's explanation
of her decision to appoint a new court president was that Kranjec
was too slow in solving court cases.
Gredelj explained that the complaint relating to damage to the
state budget was being filed because Anticevic-Marinovic appointed
one judge more than was foreseen for the Vrbovec court.
Gredelj estimated that the manner Kranjec had to hand over his
office was humiliating for the judiciary and all judges.
"Appalled" by such actions, Gredelj today forwarded a letter to
Prime Minister Ivica Racan demanding an extraordinary government
session.
Gredelj also sent the letter to the President of the Republic, First
Deputy Prime Minister, Sabor President, and presidents of the
Constitutional and Supreme Courts and all parliamentary parties.
