Discussing a report by the party president Ivo Sanader on the
party's work between two party conventions, HDZ deputies said that
in the past two years the party had managed to resist accusations
and attempts to break it up, and consolidate and become a
respectable political force.
The deputies believe that the HDZ will have to be reckoned with in
the future.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the government's relationship
to war veterans, the sale of national resources, the failure to
solve the problem of unemployment, a drop in the standard of living,
the emigration of young people, etc.
The deputies also spoke about this morning's incident, which
occurred when a group of deputies were prevented from participating
in the convention.
After he was informed about the incident, party president Ivo
Sanader told the deputies that Boro Gotovina, the brother of
general Ante Gotovina, had been invited to the convention as a guest
and that he should attend it.
The guards who are securing the convention this morning prevented
Gotovina and attorney Luka Misetic from entering the "Vatroslav
Lisinski" concert hall where the convention is held, because they
were not on the guest list.
The HDZ deputies are to elect the new party president and
leadership. Presidential candidates are Ivo Sanader, Ivic Pasalic
and Maja Freundlich.
