Spokesman for the Office of the High representative (OHR) Kevin
Sullivan said in Sarajevo Tuesday that the international experts
were expected to by mid-May draw up a report which would contain
assessments and concrete recommendations about steps which need to
be undertaken to make it possible for the Bosnian judiciary to
investigate war crimes.
They are also expected to see a possibility of establishing a
special court at the level of the country, which would exclusively
deal with such crimes and completely take over the task from the
international war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
The tribunal is already directly supervising all investigative
cases on war crimes.
Local courts in Bosnia are obliged to forward each case to the Hague
tribunal, and only after the tribunal permits them to do so, they
may initiate court proceedings.
