ZAGREB, April 5 (Hina) - Representatives of policemen dismissed
from their jobs did not turn up to a meeting Friday afternoon with
the government Commission to Resolve the Problem of Unassigned
Policemen, the government's Public Relations Office reported.#L#
The press release notes that at a meeting of the Commission Friday
morning, the police representatives did not agree with a proposal
that all unassigned policemen's status be reviewed but instead
demanded that this be done only for the 162 policemen protesting on
St. Marks' Square. #L#
As they did not attend the afternoon session of the meeting, the
Govt.'s statement believes that "certain individuals are not in
fact seriously interested in resolving the problem concerning
unassigned policemen".
Filip Lalic, speaking on behalf of the dismissed policemen who have
been protesting for 17 days now in front of Government House on St.
Mark's Square, said that they left today's meeting because they
believe they were "duped" at this morning's session.
According to Lalic, the Commission changed an earlier agreement
that priority should be given to those policemen currently on a
hunger strike. It was decided instead that the problem of
unassigned policemen should be treated alphabetically. Lalic
further said that the protesters had today forwarded a letter to the
Government requesting that a negotiating team for the police be
received however, the Government answered that they would receive
only the three representatives to the Commission and not a team of
negotiators, which was not accepted by the protesters.
