The head of the Croatian Employers' Association, Zeljko Ivancevic,
and the president of the Croatian Association of Trade Unions,
Zdenko Mucnjak, were elected GSV vice-presidents.
Begovic made his statement to the press following the opening of
Wednesday's meeting of the GSV, at which the government and
employers are expected to express their stand on union demands for
the government to withdraw its draft changes to the Labour Act.
Union leaders yesterday threatened that they would organise joint
action, including general strikes, if the government did not back
down on its changes to the Labour Act which they claim drastically
diminish workers' rights.
According to Begovic, the social partners will discuss the matter
at the end of the session.
