A statement on the hunger strike was forwarded to the media by the
indictees' wives. The former police have been in custody at the
Split District Prison since late September last year.
The indictees' wives said their husbands started the strike "in
protest of the unfounded extension of detention, double standards
in the judicial system, and the unfounded indictment, which was
issued because the current political situation demanded it, rather
than on the basis of investigation results".
According to unofficial sources, three indictees are refusing
food.
Eight former military police, of whom one remains at large, are
charged with having tortured and killed Serb civilians Gojko
Bulovic and Nenad Knezevic and inflicting serious and light
injuries on other Serb civilian prisoners between March and
September of 1992.
