The Croatian ambassador has forwarded similar letters to the
international community's High Representative to Bosnia, Wolfgang
Petritsch, and the head of the Organisation for Security and
Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Mission, Robert Beecroft, warning
about the gravity of the situation and asking for assistance in
solving it.
The Croatian Foreign Ministry said in a statement it considered the
situation very serious but not dramatic. It is expected the
problems will be solved in line with inter-state agreements,
respecting the right of all displaced people to return to their
homes.
"Solutions for the citizens of Bosnia-Herzegovina should be sought
primarily in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and only then in Croatia," the
statement reads.
The current situation must not be used for political manipulation
but one must provide reasonable assistance to find a lasting
solution, it continues. Finding an overall solution for the status
of Bosnian Croats can help in the return of all refugees and
stabilise the situation in the country and the region as well as
relations between the two countries, reads the statement.
