ZAGREB, March 18 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic was declared an honorary member of the international foundation "Raoul Wallenberg", named after the Swedish diplomat who saved thousands of Jews from certain death in
concentration camps while in diplomatic service in WWII Hungary, the President's Office said in a statement. Wallenberg was arrested in January 1945 by the Soviet Red Army and to this day his fate remains unknown. Other honorary members of the foundation include the archbishop of Buenos Aires, Jorge M. Bergoglio, Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, former US President Gerald Ford, Czech President Vaclav Havel, Nobel Peace Prize winner John Hume from Northern Ireland, Austrian President Thomas Klestil, and Polish President Alexander Kwasniewski.(hina) sb rml,
