the "Combined Endeavour 2002" exercise began in Zagreb on Monday.

This is the first activity Croatia has offered NATO and which it
accepted, commissioner of the 6th administration of the Croatian
Armed Forces General Staff, Jasenko Krovinovic, said.
The military exercise will take place in Germany's Baumholder from
9 through 30 May.
Croatian Assistant Defence Minister Arsen Bauk said the Defence
Ministry could realise the envisaged equipment plan, if less is
spent on salaries and more on equipment, which would make the
Croatian army the best equipped in the region.
The aim of Combined Endeavour 2002 is to achieve and document
communications and information systems interoperability among the
participants of the exercise in order to prepare and enable those
nations to operate together in support of a crisis response
operation. this will be achieved by engaging nations in a
constructive peacetime exchange in order to promote regional
stability and shape the security environment through positive
contact.
The chief concept planning conference for the exercise will last
until Friday in Zagreb.
