RIJEKA, March 15 (Hina) - In the trial against the "Gospic group",
indicted for war crimes against civilians, witness Sinisa Glusac on
Friday backed down on his statements given during investigation
proceedings, and said Mirko Norac, Tihomir Oreskovic and Milan
Canic are not guilty of what he previously accused them.
Glusac was a commanding officer of the artillery in Gospic in 1991.
He told the Rijeka County Court panel of judges that police officers
who spoke to him before he gave his statement told him that his
testimony will be important because "some people have to be removed
from Gospic." He said that he understood this implied Oreskovic,
Norac and Canic.
At the time he was giving his statement to police, he was under the
influence of alcohol, Glusac said. He replied to most questions
asked by judge Ika Saric with "I don't know" or "I don't remember."
Tihomir Oreskovic said Glusac's testimony is proof of his claims
that the trial is rigged because of politics and by the intelligence
underground.
The trial continues on Monday.
