ZAGREB, March 15 (Hina) - The Croatian parliament on Friday
discussed a final draft strategy for Croatia's power supply system,
as a part of the government's strategy called "Croatia in the 21st
century.#L#
During a discussion, a representative of the Croatian Party of
Rights/the Croatian Christian Democratic Union (HSP/HKDU)
criticised the ruling coalition. According to the HSP/HKDU
parliamentary bench, the ruling coalition proposed the same
strategy it harshly opposed in 1999 when it was still in the
Opposition.
They also accused the ruling coalition of "manipulating facts" in
the strategy. According to the strategy, the average annual
economic growth in the upcoming period will amount to five percent,
while the Prime Minister said the economic growth will amount to
seven percent.
On behalf of the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ), Nikica Valentic
said it is necessary to draw up a real strategy, and then establish
real increase rates for the upcoming period, draw up a plan of the
liberalisation of the oil and gas market and only then conduct the
privatisation of the INA oil company and the Croatian Power Supply
company (HEP).
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) supported the strategy because,
they say, it protects Croatia's fundamental interests and the
interests of its citizens.
The SDP said, however, the document does not include strategic
orientations towards the reduction of losses in some sectors. The
party said that increasing power supply efficiency is one of the
crucial goals of the strategy.
After the discussion on the strategy, the parliament will discuss
final bills on the privatisation of INA and HEP.
