Croatia is ahead of other countries as regards legislation directly or indirectly dealing with all minority rights, said Arlovic. ZAGREB, March 1 (Hina) - Deputy parliamentary speaker Mato Arlovic
on Friday received the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in
Europe (OSCE) high commissioner for national minorities, Rolf
Ekeus, for talks on Croatian legislation regulating the rights of
national minorities, the parliament said in a statement.
Croatia is ahead of other countries as regards legislation directly
or indirectly dealing with all minority rights, said Arlovic.
He explained the passage of a new constitutional law on the matter
had been postponed due to the poor solutions of some issues, which
he said would have fomented tensions instead of resolving the issue
of minorities' rights. Under the Constitution all national
minorities have the same rights and "there is no division on native
and non-native minorities," he said.
Parliament will go through a first reading of the new
constitutional law on minorities' rights in the middle of the year,
while the passing is expected by year's end, Arlovic added.
Ekeus extended expert OSCE assistance in the passing of said law and
other legislation related to national minorities.
