THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, March 1 (Hina) - The first protected witness in the trial against former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic at the UN war crimes tribunal at The Hague began the testimony, closed to the public, on Friday. A

The decision on protecting a witness is passed by the trial chamber and may include testifying under a pseudonym, distortion of image or voice, in which cases the testimony is not confidential. Serbia's television has said the first protected witness is a female rape victim from Kosovo. Milosevic is charged with crimes against humanity committed through the deportation of around 800,000 Albanians, the killing of Albanians, and the destruction of their villages.(hina) ha
