THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, Feb 26 (Hina) - Former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, indicted for war crimes against humanity, on Tuesday for the first time expressed regret for the suffering of Kosovo Albanians. "I am sorry that the
witness lost her baby, but I have to ask several questions", said Slobodan Milosevic before he started questioning witness Ajmane Behramaj, trying to prove that the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) had attacked Kosovo Serbs and Albanians, including a refugee column in which the witness was, and that the KLA had provoked Serbian security forces to react. "I am not educated and I don't know these things...I was only interested in saving my children", said Kosovo Albanian Ajmane Behramaj, who is the first female witness to testify in the trial against Slobodan Milosevic. THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, Feb 26 (Hina) - Former Yugoslav president
Slobodan Milosevic, indicted for war crimes against humanity, on
Tuesday for the first time expressed regret for the suffering of
Kosovo Albanians.
"I am sorry that the witness lost her baby, but I have to ask several
questions", said Slobodan Milosevic before he started questioning
witness Ajmane Behramaj, trying to prove that the Kosovo Liberation
Army (KLA) had attacked Kosovo Serbs and Albanians, including a
refugee column in which the witness was, and that the KLA had
provoked Serbian security forces to react.
"I am not educated and I don't know these things...I was only
interested in saving my children", said Kosovo Albanian Ajmane
Behramaj, who is the first female witness to testify in the trial
against Slobodan Milosevic.
Trial Chamber President Richard May discontinued Milosevic's
cross-examination saying there was no point in asking such
questions.
Behramaj, just like all previous witnesses, did not once look at
Milosevic.
In reply to Milosevic's suggestion that the Serbian army re-
directed the refugees in order to protect them, the witness said "If
they wanted to save us, they would not have shelled us".
During the cross-examination, Milosevic again accused the
Prosecution of tampering with evidence and witnesses so he would
answer for crimes committed by unknown perpetrators.
