ZAGREB, Feb 20 (Hina) - Premier Ivica Racan said in the parliament
on Wednesday that disclosing Slobodan Milosevic's talks, allegedly
recorded by Croatian intelligence services, was a mistake.
Racan told Ante Djapic of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) the
issue of why such things leaked or who was responsible for them was
complex. The premier said he had been expressing dissatisfaction
with the situation in intelligence services earlier.
Djapic concluded the publicising of Milosevic's talks caused great
damage to Croatia and the Croatian Army, and that in a normal state
such reports and methods of collecting them never leaked, and the
information was kept secret for at least 35 years.
Racan expressed hope that a bill on intelligence services, which
the government will discuss tomorrow, would help prevent similar
occurrences. He said he hoped the law would enable control of
intelligence services so that they are not abused, and secure the
liability of individuals and parts of services for illegal
actions.
