BELGRADE, Feb 19 (Hina) - Serbia's authorities cannot corroborate a
claim by the chief prosecutor of the UN war crimes tribunal to the
effect that Ratko Mladic is in Belgrade or its area, a source from
the Serbian government told Hina on Tuesday on condition of
anonymity.
The source made this statement following an interview with chief
prosecutor Carla del Ponte in today's edition of the Belgrade
weekly Reporter. "I know he is in Belgrade, i.e. a little outside of
Belgrade," the magazine quotes del Ponte as saying. She said this
had been publicly confirmed by a Serbian minister, whom she did not

Rumours that Mladic, a Bosnian Serb war criminal, is in Belgrade
have been circulating for some time in both the public and the
media, but Serbian officials keep on refuting them.
Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica refuted them at a regular
press conference on Monday. He said the Yugoslav side was not
protecting Mladic and that "according to information from senior
military officials, Ratko Mladic is not on Yugoslav territory."
