WASHINGTON, Feb 8 (Hina) - Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica
has said the question why war crimes indictees Radovan Karadzic and
Ratko Mladic have not been arrested yet is "very unpleasant" for
him.
Kostunica said this in an interview published in Friday's issue of
the Washington Times.
The Yugoslav president arrived in the United States at the
invitation of several US congressmen, as a guest at the National
Prayer Breakfast.
Speaking about Karadzic, Kostunica said he was definitely on the
territory of Bosnia-Herzegovina. "Despite the international
military presence, nobody can say for sure where he is," Kostunica
said.
The Yugoslav president said he could not confirm recent information
that Ratko Mladic was in Belgrade under the protection of the
Yugoslav army.
In the interview for the Washington Times, Kostunica avoided
reiterating his earlier view on the UN war crimes tribunal being "an
instrument of the US policy". He only said the ICTY could not
prosecute everything that happened in the region.
Kostunica also spoke about the upcoming Montenegrin referendum
saying he was ready to accept Montenegro's independence if this was
the decision of "a clear majority".
The United States and the European Union have called on Montenegro
to remain in the Yugoslav federation.
