ZAGREB, Feb 19 (Hina) - The runaway prisoner from a correctional centre in Pozega, Srdjan Mladjan, 21, who killed a police officer in Zagreb on Monday night and then held hostages, was arrested on Tuesday morning at 1:32AM in Zagreb,
the Zagreb police department spokeswoman, Stanka Saraja, said on Tuesday. Saraja told Hina, Mladjan ran into a hostage situation after escaping from the place of murder of a policeman, which ended after several hours long negotiations by his surrender. Mladjan fired three shots at the police officer who came to arrest him as Mladjan did not return to the Pozega detention centre after a weekend off. Shortly after, police throughout Croatia was after him, Saraja said. Mladjan fired three shots at the police officer who came to arrest
him as Mladjan did not return to the Pozega detention centre after a

The police located Mladjan about hour and a half after the murder of
the policeman. Taking part in negotiations with Mladjan was the
head of office of the Zagreb police chief, Goran Burusic.
Mladjan demanded the presence of the media in front of the building
in which he held hostages in order to secure safe exit. The police
met his request, but placing police officers behind cameras and
microphones, Saraja said.
Mladjan released the girl around midnight and exited the building
along with other two hostages at 1:32AM.
According to unofficial information, Srdjan Mladjan is a several
times killer and a robber. He was sentenced to ten years in prison -
the harshest punishment for minors.
The killed police officer, 40, was father to three.
