ZAGREB, Feb 18 (Hina) - In the period between 1997 and 2001, 44 traffic accidents occurred in the transport of oil and oil products by road in which 18 people were injured. Four of them died, the Croatian Interior Ministry said in
reply to a question by MP of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Miroslav Korenika. Immediate damage to the environment was estimated at around 2.5 million kuna, while indirect damage is as yet immeasurable and would be evident only after some time. Korenika asked about the reasons for which the Rule Book on the transport of hazardous substances by road was changed, causing a disturbance in Croatia's relations with its neighbours, concretely, with Slovenia and Bosnia-Herzegovina. The ministry recalled that the chief reason for changing the Rule Book was to decrease the consequences of ecological accidents in the transport of hazardous substances by Croatian roads.(hina) lml sb
