Tuesday handed reporters copies of an (alleged) Stabilisation
Force (SFOR) document, which, Ivankovic claims, reads that the
current Croatian authorities and intelligence services are trying
to carry out an operation aimed at the arrest and execution of
retired general Ante Gotovina.
Gotovina has been indicted for war crimes by the Hague war crimes
tribunal. After he failed to turn himself in to the tribunal, an
international warrant for his arrest was issued.
According to Ivankovic, the SFOR document bears witness to "a plan
of Croatia's new intelligence leadership to solve the case of Ante
Gotovina as a source of political instability and a weapon in the
hands of political opponents."
HONOS has requested that all competent factors in Croatia,
including Prime Minister Ivica Racan, either confirm or deny the
authenticity of the document, Ivankovic said. He also added that
the document could be considered "credible".
Ivankovic confirmed that two days ago he offered the document to a
daily to publish it, but it was refused, so he decided to distribute
it at a press conference.
The document is dated 15 December 2001.
